THE 2013 ZINFANDEL AND CABERNET ARE SOLD OUT – THANK YOU!!!!!
2014 MONTECILLO VINEYARD ZINFANDEL
The 2014 Zinfandel is from the Montecillo Vineyard, an old vine head-trained vineyard located high above the Sonoma Valley on the western flanks of the Mayacamas Mountains. The grapes were harvested on September 6 (an early harvest) and crushed into small tanks where the wine fermented for 12 days undergoing 3 punch downs per day for color extraction, then basket pressed. We picked a small amount of Russian River Valley Petite Sirah and fermented it separately. Two percent of the Petite Sirah was blended into the zinfandel, then the wine went into 25% new and 75% used French Oak barrels for 22 months before being bottled on July 20, 2016. A total of 150 cases of the 2014 Zinfandel were produced.
Tasting Notes: Deep red color, with a brambly black fruit and French Oak nose redolent of a mountain zinfandel. On the palate, bright red raspberry fruit with subtle oak and a well balanced acid finish. This is a sterling example of an old vine mountain zinfandel. 15.4% alcohol
2014 WILD OAK VINEYARD CABERNET
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon from the Wild Oak Vineyard in the Sonoma Valley was harvested on September 23, de-stemmed and cold soaked for 3 days prior to fermentation. After fermenting for 14 days, the wine was pressed into 25% new and 75% used French Oak barrels and racked post malolactic fermentation. The wine was barreled for 22 months then bottled July 20, 2016. A total of 125 cases of the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon were produced.
Tasting Notes: Bright purple-red in color with a rich aroma of dark plum and cassis with gentle French Oak overtones. The flavor is a generous cassis, plum and chocolate with a bright acid and tannin finish. Five to 15 years of patience will pay wonderful dividends, but early consumption will satisfy your current desires, especially with a nice ribeye steak. 14.2% alcohol

RESTING IN THE BARRELS: THE 2015 WINES
2015 CABERNET SAUVIGNON SONOMA VALLEY
The 2015 vintage was one of the earliest, if not the earliest, harvest on record due to an early bud break, small crop and extended drought. The 2015 Wild Oak Vineyard Cabernet came in on September 17th at approximately ½ of the normal crop size. We were unable to locate any additional Cabernet of sufficient quality so we called a few growers to see what they had. In Sonoma Valley, we found some Petit Verdot from the Stemach family vineyard and Malbec from the Len Woolard Vineyard, both Bordeaux varieties. We were impressed with the quality and contracted one half ton of each. This gave us blending opportunities we didn’t have before. Our blending trials resulted in what we feel is an exceptional Cabernet. The wine is largely Cabernet Sauvignon with Malbec blended in. The aroma and flavor is Cabernet while the Malbec adds a softness and a broadening of the finish. A fine and ageworthy Cabernet.
2015 ZINFANDEL SONOMA VALLEY
We harvested the Zinfandel on August 20th . We again chose the Montecillo Vineyard, with its rich, luscious fruit and substantial acidity which tends to add structure to the ripe mouth feel. This vintage we decided to try blending with the Montecillo Zinfandel. We knew we would have to forego the vineyard designation but felt we could elevate and contribute more complexity to an already fine Zinfandel. We added some Wild Oak Petite Sirah and Woolard Malbec and are quite pleased with the wine. A typical old vine mountain Zinfandel with muscle.
2015 BORDEAUX BLEND SONOMA VALLEY- Name to be determined
Clyde and I discussed producing a blend and now we have the wine for it. Off to the blending table. We didn’t want one variety to dominate but rather have each provide their attributes in an integrated whole. The Cabernet gave us the cassis and the slight herbs, the Petite Verdot added color and a tannin backbone that lengthened the mouth feel while the Malbec added a softness and a slight sweet sensation to the mix. We’re very pleased with this new addition to our portfolio.
2015 DOG TIRED RED SONOMA VALLEY
When Clyde and I made some home wine a few years ago, we had a half barrel of a mix of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Cabernet. We bottled it under the Dog Tired label and were quite surprised with how well it developed. For the 2015 vintage, we had the wines so we decided to try it again. The wine is primarily Montecillo Zinfandel with some Woolard Malbec, Stemach Petit Verdot, and Wild Oak Petite Sirah. The Zinfandel notes are there but the other varieties add their own statements. Dark in color and rich on the pallet this blend pleases.
2015 Wines are to be bottled June 2017 and available for sale August 2017. All our wines are aged in French Oak exclusively. Very Limited Bottlings of 100 cases or less of each.
